A varde marks
the way.
In Scandinavia, a varde is a stack of stones that marks the trail. Hikers build them on mountain ridges. Sailors used them to find the coast. The word goes back to Old Norse varða, a marker, and shares a root with vörðr, a guardian.
That's the idea behind VARDEN: simple gear that does one job well and holds its ground, mile after mile.
